Director General in the industry, commerce, agriculture and fisheries ministry Vivian Brown has hailed Honey Bun Limited for steps taken to improve its energy consumption, with the installation of 94 photo voltaic panels.
At a ceremony to officially unveil the first phase of the project at the company’s Retirement Road headquarters in Kingston last Friday, Brown said the move would have far-reaching significance for the company.
“What you have done here at Honey Bun, I assure you, will have positive implications for all in terms of growth, job creation, and competitiveness,” Brown said.
Installed by Sofos Jamaica Limited, the panels generate approximately 100 kilowatt hours of electricity per day. The US$250,000 ($31,192,487) investment in renewable energy has already yielded a 14 per cent decrease in the company’s energy bill.
Brown, who represented portfolio minister Karl Samuda, hopes that this “bold move” by Honey Bun Limited will inspire other Jamaican manufacturers to follow in their footsteps.
